lostprophets have spent their three years of (virtual) silence well. ‘Fake sound’ was a promising debut, but even the most fanatic followers have to admit that after a while it gets a bit…repetitive. There were variations there, but you had to dig for them. On the other hand, ‘Start Something’ has a vast array of music, from the pop-tinged ‘Last Train Home’ to the heavier ‘We Are Godzilla, You Are Japan’ to slower, mellower numbers like ‘Sway’. Every band harps on about how much they’ve ‘grown’ and improved since their last album, but it’s very rare that they live up to their own hype. The interludes between the songs get old fast, but the songs themselves are pure musical gold. There are also some bonus features, including an interview and the video for ‘Burn Burn’. They don’t add much, but it’s nice to see someone making the effort. Even if you weren’t bowled over by ‘prophets first outing, this is an album you need to hear. Let’s just hope we don’t have to wait as long for the next one.
