Irony Of Faith

Were did the name Irony Of Faith come from?
Faith is the ground of a man’s life. When I say "faith" I don't mean only the religious one, but also faith in an idea, in a woman/man, in a friend, in a job, in whatever you want, even in bad things as a low self-esteem. What we say is “what happens when you lose your faith?”; your ground fall, something in your life seem to fall apart, and the effect on you is a feeling. So feelings are nothing more than a loss of faith. That’s ironic, isn’t it? Well, that’s it, Irony of Faith

Who has been the biggest inspiration for you so far?
Is difficult for us to say who has been our biggest inspiration. In fact every single Irony of Faith’s member listen to a lot of different music. For example, when I was very young I started listening to brit-pop, then I started to listen to every kind of rock, and now I’m in love with trip-hop and electro. We love music in his every way and we put no barriers between us and this world, so that we are influenced by everything we like. Anyway some people told us that we seem a Mike Patton band (Faith No More, Mr Bungle, Fantomas, etc.) or something like Dog Fashion Disco. It could be true, in fact the link between us and those bands is that we like to play music, without any kind of barriers or limits.

*What are you hoping to succeed while being in iof?
I hope that some day we’ll have the possibility of make a lot of people listen to our music and play around the world, so that all the world could listen to what music should be: music for music’s sake.

Then one of my dream is to write a “great song”, one of that songs that everyone knows, even if they don’t know who wrote it. Unluckily in this years is difficult to write songs like that, in fact it’s just a dream...:)

would you rather go to a gig or party?
I’d rather go to a party with a gig! :) Or better, I’d rather play at a party with IoF!

How was the music scene for you in Milan while growing up?
Unluckily here in Italy there are a lot of difficulties for young bands to grow up. The greatest problem is that there isn’t enough audience at the gigs, because here is rare that someone goes to see a band that doesn’t know very well. The only way is to make a lot of gigs and promotion (alone because is very difficult to find a good label here), but it’s difficult to play in important places if you are not famous, so this is a vicious circle. Luckily in the last years a lot of good band were born and, because of the problems I’ve just talked about, we are trying to help each other. The good thing here in Milan is that we have a lot of places to play and maybe this is the best city in Italy to play music.

Do you feel that it is the United Kingdom and USA that get all the best
bands touring there?
Maybe, but I think that this happens because in that countries the rock-audience is bigger. For example, in Norway and in Finland there are a lot of rock-gigs because there’s a very big rock-audience.Anyway it can’t be true that the UK and USA get all the best bands touring there...in fact we’ve never toured in those countries (eh eh...joking...:))

What is your best way to write a song?
It depends. Often one of us propose a riff, a lyric or just an idea, then we started to work on it. At first we work on the skeleton of the song, and then we pay attention to particulars. After this work the song always take its definitive form when we play it at our gigs. As in everything we do, the differences between us are very important in our songwriting too; it could happen that we start writing a metal-oriented song and we finish that the same song become a funky-electro-metal song!

Were you and Darin Yevonde (dopestarsinc.) friends while growing up?
No, I knew him last year. At first we met on the net, on the board of a club called Rainbow Club, and then we met sometimes in some clubs here in Milan. But only in London I knew him better.

Has there been anything or anyone that has put you off being in iof? If so why?
Sometimes difficulties and problems are bigger than satisfactions, and that’s when sometimes I ask to myself: “what am I doing? Is this the right way? Can I spend my time in some more productive ways?”. In moment like this you can see who is the real artist; I can’t imagine my life without music, so that’s why, even in bad moments, I always decide to go on. I think that’s the same for the other guys in IoF.

How old was you when you wanted to be in a band?
I’ve always had the dream of becoming a famous singer since I was a child, but my real dream of becoming a singer in a band started just when I became the Irony of Faith’s singer. I know it’s strange, but I realized which was my dream just when I was already living it!

Is iof your first band or have you been in several that did not work out?
Irony of Faith is my very first band. We started playing together when we were very young and we are still playing together; this is a great thing because we know each other like brothers.

If you could tour with any band, who would it be?
I would like very much to tour with Faith No More, but I think that’s impossible...:)Anyway, I think this is the most difficult question of this interview! In fact there are a lot of bands I love, but I don’t know what kind of person they are. For example, I love A Perfect Circle, but I have the suspect that Maynard is not a very friendly person...

How would you describe your music for iof?
We play music for music’s sake. We think music is feelings, and it’s very difficult to give right labels to feelings. And this was the second most difficult question! :)

Anything else you would like to say,or even ask me? Cheers.
