ALKALINE TRIO/ONE MAN ARMY

Spare a thought for One Man Army. Even at their worst, Alkaline Trio are a hard act to follow, and on these six tracks they seem to have reached pop-punk perfection. The guitars are melodic but distorted, the vocals are polished and the lyrics…let’s just say thay haven’t cheered up much since ‘Good Mourning’ (sample lyric: ‘I’d kill for you and eat the flesh, give you the heart and burn the rest’).

One Man army give them a run for their money, serving up two-minute blasts of rawer, more upbeat, less radio friendly ppunk. Songs like ‘IFHA (one love)’ and ‘Let’s Call It An Evening’ are bound to win them some new fans. They’re definitely one to watch, but ultimately this is just one more step on Alk3’s road to world domination. Shame.
