Interview with
Patricia
HorrorPops

Where did the name Horrorpops come from?
It came from trying to describe the music. We play Horror Pop. Now you can either understand that as we are horrible at playing pop music or that we are horrifically lickable like a lollipop.

Females in bands seem to have more pressure on them and are judged more. How was it for you?
I never considered being a girl playing music before being confronted with it in interviews. When I pick up my instrument I’m a person playing and I don’t give any thought to if I have boobs or not. I guess it is a bit more difficult when starting out as a girl cuz not a lot of guys will consider you for their band, but on the other

hand it’s sometime easier getting signed when you have girls in the band. So I guess in the end it evens out between the genders. It is pretty silly that it’s still something that anybody thinks about.

Did you feel you’d be heavily criticised for having two dancers? ( ED- sorry about this, we didn’t realise we had called them dancers!)
Have we? I don’t know, but if we had it doesn’t really matter that much. We have all been in the business long and we are not trying to be something we’re not. We are 6 friends that enjoy being together and if we removed our two grunt and groaner’s (go-go’s) it would only be to please our critics and I guess that would make us in to whatever we’re being criticized for.

Who are the main influences for the HorrorPops?
Everything! We started HorrorPops to be able to cross over to all kinds of music. We all come from bands with strict subcultural back grounds like Psychobilly, punk and Indie. There are a lot of little freaks in uniform that dictates that if you’re a punk you can only play punk and not ex do a surf song. We wanted to play all styles of music and have no rules. Between the 6 of us we can’t agree on even one band we all like, that’s why there’s so many different styles on the Hell Yeah album and I guess that is what makes HorrorPops HorrorPops.

Are there any bands at the moment that you are particularly impressed with?
Not really, if it has a good melody I like it.

Do you like meeting fans after shows?
Hell yeah! That’s always a blast!!!!

What was your first experience like meeting fans?
In HorrorPops the first time it really blew me away was when we played at Troubadour in LA. People were screaming so loud it was impossible to play..it was crazy!

You have toured for a huge part of 2004. Do you ever get to a point where you want to stop?

NO! Touring is why we play music! I don’t really care for recording, making videos or all that other stuff, it’s all just something to get us on the road.

If you had your own gig and you could pick any bands to play who would you pick?
We would totally choose the Filaments again. They are a really cool and fun band.

If you could star in any film past or present, what would it be and who would you play?
Cry Baby and I would be the jail keeper, poor little J. Depp wouldn’t get much sleep..hehe.

Who are your heroes or idols?
I don’t have any.

What is the worst question any of you have been asked?
Are you Psychobilly…

What do the HorrorPops have planned for the future?
We are entering the studio in Feb. and hopefully we will hit the road soon after and stay on it until we get pulled back in the studio for another album.

Thanks Patrcia and have you anything to add or even ask us?
Can we get a little Hell Yeah!….
