Interview with
Shane
Silverstein

Amy: Tell us your name and what you do in the band.
I’m Shane and I sing.

Amy: What should the fans expect to see at the show tonight?
Hopefully a wide variety of emotions and actions.  Like the great thing about our music is that we have people tearing each other’s heads off in the pit and at the same time we have people kind of bobbing around and we have some people sitting back and taking it all in. Just like reflecting and everything. So we got a lot of different vibes going on at our shows.

Booie: Who’s been your favourite band to tour with?
There’s really been so many. We did a tour here last time we were here with Underoath.  They’re one of my favourite bands to tour with because those guys are just like, I don’t know. They don’t drink or smoke or anything.  They’re easy going guys and still have a great time and a lot of fun. I love those guys.

Amy: What’s your favourite word to say in an English accent?
Water, say water?
Amy: You say it.
I can’t do it. I can’t, I’m sorry.  Everywhere I go I pick up the accent except here. I can’t, I dunno.
Amy: Can’t you just try?
(laughs) I can’t, I won’t do it, I won’t do it. I’m so boring, I know.

Booie: If you were sent to a desert island and could only have three things with you, what would they be?
Three things?  I’d take probably the million gig I-pod that they’re gonna come out with in 2009 or something. I’d probably take my girlfriend or a girl with equal attractiveness.  My third thing, I’d probably bring a computer with a really, really strong wireless internet card.

Amy: What’s been your highlight of being in Silverstein so far?
Just being able to see the world, coming here and going to Australia pretty much right when this tour’s over.  And going all over North America.  It’s been awesome meeting new people and hanging out and just playing music to a huge audience.  It’s been really cool.

Amy: What music are you listening to on this tour?
Well, to be honest, I haven’t really listened to a single thing on this tour.  I’ve been so busy.  I watched a lot of Ali G and Family Guy. I don’t know, what have I been listening to? I’ve listened to The Black Maria and Aiden a lot before I came here.  the new Emmanuel record is something that I like a lot, if you’ve heard it.  Listened to a lot of Fallout Boy ‘cos we did a tour with them.  And Gym Class Heroes which is like a hip hop group that I like a lot. That’s about it.

Booie: Why should we listen to your music?
Why? Well like I said about the show having a wide range of emotional and physical things going on it’s like our music’s the same way.  You can take it in a lot of different ways if you want it to feel like physically you want to rock out and be really aggressive. It’s got that element to it. But if you just wanna chill and whatever it’s also got that. And a lot of other kinds of music don’t have those qualities, I think.

Amy: What question do you hate being asked in an interview?
Anything that has to do with lyrics or something like that because I’m very, very, very bad at explaining what I mean. People get confused and they’re like “yeah, okay?” And then I read it in the interview and it doesn’t make any sense.  Oh my God, it’s like I’m an idiot.

Booie: Who were your inspirations while growing up?
Well the reason I wanted to start playing music was Metallica, when I was about ten or eleven years old. My sister had a Metallica, I guess it was cassette at that time and I would sneak into her room when she wasn’t around and blare it and rock out and stuff. it was weird ‘cos I didn’t even know what instruments was doing what or anything.  I didn’t know anything about it.  I just knew that I liked it.  So I was like okay, guitar. My dad played guitar too so I was like, I wanna learn to play.  So from there I got really into metal and stuff and as I grew up I got into punk

rock and NOFX and Lagwagon were two really inspirational bands to me and helped me bridge the gap between listening to only metal to listening to other kinds of music.  And from there I got into even more poppier emo, Get Up Kids and stuff.  There was always The Beatles who were an influence, and Kiss, believe it or not.

Booie: Where do you want to tour and what would be your line-up?
I don’t know .Underoath are such a great bunch of guys, I’d love to go on tour with them again.  There’s a good band on Victory called Bayside who are really good friends of ours. To me that’s what it’s all about.Your friends being on the road and just having a good time and experiencing different places with them.  Example, when we’re going to Australia we’re only going by ourselves unfortunately but I’d love to bring all our friends to Australia.  I’d also like to go to South America and really want to go to Japan too.

Booie: What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
Ever done? Pretty much what I do on a daily basis which is my crazy life which is being away from mom all the time and being on the road.  Screaming my head off 250 days of the year. I don’t think it gets too much more crazy than that.  There’s been certain things that have happened to me when I’ve been drunk and stuff that I’ve been crazy.  I don’t know, I can’t really think of a certain one.

Amy: That’s it, do you want to ask us or add anything?
Just check out our new record on August 16th.
